During the months of June and July, nine galleries of the Amsterdam Jordaan district will join forces for the second time to organize Nieuw Amsterdams Peil (N.A.P.).
This year, the exhibition will be curated by Joost Declercq, director of the Belgian Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens and Charlotte Crevits, curator of Dhondt-Dhaenens. For this second edition, Declercq is selecting one artist per gallery, to be paired with one or two Belgian artist(s) not represented by a gallery in the Netherlands. Through coupling these artists, Declercq is putting them in the spotlights as well as providing the galleries with a link to foreign partners through international collaborations.

Temporary Gallery, Cologne, DE, curated by Regina Barunke
May 24 - July 24, 2014
For the exhibition, the artist creates an installation consisting of an wall-sized video projection and an eponymous floor piece, which was created especially for this exhibition. Spread on the black floor tiles are gold-leaf covered body bags as used, for example, in disaster protection. Footage of wave movements is projected in a vertical rotation on the wall, creating an abstract-poetic moment.
The installation is characterized by the interweaving of different contexts, histories, stories and places that provoke images and associations beyond the physically perceptible. One of these places and narrative starting points is Cologne, another the Italian Mediterranean island of Lampedusa. Both share collective and individual motivations and expectations towards an achievable earthly paradise: the journey of the relics of the Three Kings wound in coffin cloth from Constantinople, via Milan to Cologne, and the associated cult of relics that drew countless pilgrims to the cathedral city; Lampedusa as paradisical place and factual terminus of the martyrdom of migrants and refugees from Tunisia, Libya, Somalia and Eritrea on their way to Europe. More than 300 drowned in October 2013 alone, when a refugee boat sank near the island. What symbolically remains, are charged and collectively stored media images of functionally stacked body bags. With the interaction and reduced presentation of works in "Paradise Syndrome", Edith Dekyndt creates a situation in which subjective expectations and seemingly objective facts and things promising salvation are confronted with one another, and both are reflected back at the viewer.

The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts upcoming exhibition, Art of Its Own Making, explores the artistic process and the ways in which artworks evolve over time through interactions with people and their surroundings. The exhibition features sculpture, installation, film, video, and performance and sound works by a dozen artists, who examine how elements outside their control impact the works of art they create. On view February 13 to August 23, 2014, Art of Its Own Making demonstrates the connections between artwork, audience, and environment and their relevance to understanding and engaging with art.
Spanning the last fifty years, Art of Its Own Making features a diverse group of artists, including Athanasios Argianas, Tony Conrad, Edith Dekyndt, Agnes Denes, Hans Haacke, Roger Hiorns, Sam Lewitt, Len Lye, Robert Morris, Nam June Paik, Keith Tyson, and Meg Webster, among others.
The works in the exhibition invite alternative encounters, encouraging audiences to consider their relationship to the works and surrounding environment.

Krasny Ougol'
Green blankets are suspended by one of their angle. Woven wool, they evoke the domestic sphere but their colors evoke collective domaines as the hospital or the army. Each is covered with a square surface with gold leaf. The title of the piece is the name of the 'beautiful corner' in izbas, where were placed the icons for private devotion. The golden square is related to the supremacist quadrangle.
